Didn't use a Fox gun, but filled 2 turkey tags!

Post by Mike of the Mountain »

Two birds in three days back from the Spring Southern!! Bird 1 was a huge Tom, 24 lbs, 9 1/4" paintbrush beard and total 2 5/16" spurs at 8:15 AM on 1 May. Bird 2 was a bearded hen that I always wanted. She sported a 6 1/4" beard and came in with 3 gobblers. She was taken at 15 yards left handed. Now it's time to move on to shooting some chucks. :D

That is great, Mike! I too have killed a bearded hen back in the day when I turkey hunted. The one I killed came in alone to a hen yelp. The feathers on the bird were as black as a tom's feathers. Were the hen's feathers as black as your gobbler?

THX Jim. No, she was the usual dusty bronze of a hen. I was hoping she had spurs, but the beard was good enough. It's at the taxidermist. :D

So the Mrs. finally tagged her very first gobbler!! 7:00 on Monday AM at 15 yards. Big Tom, 22 lbs, 10 1/4" beard and total 2 6/16" spurs. He came in and whooped up on a jake decoy and as soon as he paused and stuck out his neck, BANG!!!! To say she's excited is an understatement!! TEAM CRESCENT RULES!!!!!
