Fox fishing reels

Post by Mills »

What can the group tell me about Fox fishing reels? They appear related to Fox guns or at least were made in Philly

made by AH Fox, they do not seem to command much in the way of value.

but i have had one on a shelf for decades just because its a Fox product

a web search found this
"In 1927, when the Godshalks owned the A H Fox Co, they bought out The John Lauterbach Co.,maker of fishing reels and stamped them " A H fox Co""
"If there is a heaven it must have thinning aspen gold, and flighting woodcock, and a bird dog" GBE

I have had one and just ordered two more. Did not pay much for them. Should be fun to fish with them when turkey season ends

It seems that far and away the biggest survivor in the Fox reel line is the 250 yd Free Spool, both with the A.H. Fox Gun Co. name or the Fox Co. name on the base.

Fox reels seem to be worth a lot more at a gun show than they are on ebay or in vintage tackle shops.

Thanks Dave! I was just wondering where I could find some advertising material. I see they had a fly reel. That would be cool to have.

Thanks Dave, for 40+ years I never knew there was any other version other than the big ones.

Here is a model 30L and what remains of the box. It is a small reel with Fox Phila Pa in the Bakelite near the handle.
