Stock refinish on a CE 12g.

Post by Brian Dudley »

Here are some photos I wanted to share of a stock refinish I recently completed on a CE 12. The gun has exceptional metal condition. Both case and barrel blue. But for some reason or another, someone had refinished the wood with a VERY dark chocolate brown stain and a heavy gloss finish. The stain was so dark the figure could barely be seen in the wood. And it had a crudely fitted leather covered pad.
Fortunately enough, the wood finish stripped pretty easily and there was still room for the light sanding needed to get it all ready for new finish.
The installation of a New old stock Hawkins pad finishes everything off.

Brian Your wood refinish on the CE is the closest I have ever seen to original in color and tone. Great job. Craig Larter

Super indeed. I assume that is Timberluxe finish? If so it is indeed period correct as far as looks go.

Beautiful job, Brian. That is what we shoot to end up with .... a finish that some would argue just might be original. Absolutely first rate.

Where does one get Amber Shellac, any paint store? Was that the finish Ansley used way back?

Zesner Bullseye shellac is made the same exact way it was 100 years ago. One can mix their own from flakes. But the commercial stuff has so much less impurities in it.

Brian,

Where did you happen to come up with the 13-Heart Hawkins, I am in search of one for a project.

Thanks, Will
