Fox 12g CE grouse gun

Post by terc »

This is the Fox pictured with Bella in the " Hunting with Fox section. It is a twelve gauge CE bought last year from a dealer. The gun was restocked at some point, the original DOH was 3 1/2" , it is now 2 1/8" DAH x 14 3/4" LOP. I believe the metal finishes are all original. The gun matches the Fox card.
It has 26" barrels .005/ .015 chokes, # 4 weight barrels, and 2 3/4" chambers.
When I got the gun last year it weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. It was butt heavy. The wood was very proud to the metal. The stock was also a very light color , with unstained light colored filler in the pores. The butt was checkered wood.
I hand sanded the wood down until it was flush with metal parts, then sanded, stained and refinished the wood. The next step was to bore out the stock to reduce weight. I bought an original buttplate and screws, had the screws engraved then fitted the plate to the stock.
The gun now looks great,to me, is perfectly balanced, and weighs in at 6 lbs. 12 oz.
Dave

Pretty Fox! Looks to be a very capable birdgun, you shouldn't limit it to just grouse if at all possible.

Most interesting! I have a nearly identical gun, an early C grade (8407) with 26" barrels bored IC in both barrels (.007). Advertised as a "Florida quail hunter's gun", I would hate to lug it all day in the palmettos in search of gentleman Bob - the gun weighs in at a hefty 7 lbs. 14 oz.!! Kevin

Well, the grouse seasons aren't what used be. The numbers are way down. I had to retire my Setter two years ago. She is now a 14 year old house queen, much loved.
I've been hunting with out a dog.
I sold the 12g C a few years ago , I don't know why. I now carry a nice 20g / 28" / CE.
All is well, thanks for the comments, Dave
