Re: 'Timberdoodelin' with Reynard

Roger, so nice to see your Faith and Emma and your way cool Reynard out hunting and making memories; so many Fox smallbore customs seem to mainly gather dust except for show & tell sessions in the den or on a show table. Thank you for posting. A joyous Christmas to you and yours. frank

Re: Dave's Favorite!

A really nice condition vintage Remington but come on now  Remmies were only one of several repeaters that were to supplant double-guns at the traps. Most recognize the Winchester 1897 and 1912 pump guns as the Kings of the Hill. frank

Re: Chasing Late Season Grouse with a Fox!

Congratulations Brett. Birds flushing from a tree make a really tough shot. The Fox gets the game. Reminds me of the Alaskan wilderness fly-in moose hunts my cousin and I used to do. On a river about 90 miles from the nearest town and with the bare minimum of food along with our guns and gear, all ...

You've gotten plenty of good info from resources here in 80+ posts since 2020. Low budget considering a restock with knockout wood? Just wondering if you're a current paying AFHCA member? Only $30. per year. frank

Well Roger that sounds like a good reason to stay over at least one night to bark with the Fox Faithful. :D frank

Roger, what a class act! Thanks for posting. Now then, we've seen and talked with you many times at the Northeast SxS but I don't recall you bringing any spirits for post-shooting toasts of St. Hubertus. Tell me I'm wrong. frank

Re: Fox at a local store

"Cut with a hacksaw" reminds me of the Detective Captain in a nearby town who was our Security Consultant at work. We became friends and he'd always stop by my office to report and chat during his biweekly Plant visits. Years earlier during WW2 he'd jumped into Holland as an OSS agent and ...

Re: Fox at a local store

Thanks gents for the clarification on the muzzle end; yes I looked again and saw the ivory bead on the lower part of that pic. The dent locations bring up another concern because Phila era Fox chokes are full tapered and are typically 3-1/2 - 4"" or so long. A regular expanding mandrel den...

Re: Fox at a local store

Maybe it's just the pic but the "dent" to the left side of the last one looks like it was caused by striking against a piece of circular metal, kind of like a punch. If so and without a hands-on insection with a good magnifier and a bore mike, that would bother me particularly if close to ...

Re: A.H Fox Grade B Double Barrel

Mismatch. The J T Callahan letter cites s/n 24323 and the frame s/n is 24528. As a former Director I have access to the Record Card files but I'm enjoined from doing copies or providing Card info. I will say though while doing some other records study this evening I looked up s/n 24528 and it shows ...

Re: Fox at a local store

Trying to be helpful but you haven't given us enough details on the gun to prompt replies with fair market value. All we know is what can be seen in a few pics; also that it has 28" barrels, one small (?) barrel dent and an aftermarket recoil pad. What is the length of pull over the pad? How ar...

Re: Double Gun Journal -Sad News

Sorry to hear about Daniel's recent bout with shingles. I do hope he gets well quickly and without any complications. Just my personal perspectives: 80% finished at 100% effort over ~18 months extrapolates to completion about 4-5 months from now. Also, based on Dan's comment on judging pre publicati...

Re: Double Gun Journal -Sad News

Well, let's look at it this way. As a past author I know the two editors worked pretty much full time to put out each quarterly issue. The last issue published was Spring 2022 and the Summer 2022 issue was almost complete when they pulled the plug. Since then there's been 6 quarters available for “f...
