Re: Colt 1878
If that gap looking thing on the left side of the action at the water table is really a shadow, someone might take this gun on as a project. How bad are the barrels?

Re: Colt 1878
Colt letters usually state the dollar amount of engraving, but not usually the grade. I think the "fancy" designation is unusual, although I have not seen enough Colt letters to know for sure. I am not much for bad wood to metal fit, but I sure would have bought that gun. Can you post a pi...

Re: If You Got It Use It
I hope that my paper accumulation means as much to the next owner as it does to me. Dave Noreen should write a definitive article on disposing of our paper as we retire.

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
Craig's measurement of six Super Foxes is even tighter at .035, none are too unusual. My .040 is unusual, but if it shoots an unusually tight pattern, it's probably a factory adjustment. The muzzle dimension is not changed, only the bore. Again, Fox fooled with 12 gauge Super Fox bores to achieve a ...

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
The choke dimensions of Dave's NID are identical to the HE 20 that I measured. Very interesting. Next step, in addition to waiting for more replies, is to pattern this gun. Has Dave patterned his NID? I haven't patterned my .040 choked 20 gauge Beretta even though I have been shooting it for forty y...

Re: BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG
Dave, thanks for the great ads. It seems that the 80-85% claims extended to the 20 gauges from the beginning to the 1930 ad.

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
Craig, the suspect barrels would have to be patterned. My 20 gauge Beretta International Trap gun has .040 in the top barrel and shoots well. Parker Repros are over .040 and shoot well. The HE 20 barrel dimension at the muzzle is the same for the .040 choke and the .033 or .027 with a smaller bore. ...

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
I feel the same way, but I'm doing research here. Craig Larter is the only one to measure any 20 gauge Supers and report back. I'm trying to flush out the other fifty some examples. All the owners have to do is measure the bores and chokes and report. Thanks to all that respond.

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
The reason I am requesting the bore diameters of HE 20s is that 12 gauge Supers are all over the map, not just early and late guns, but probably guns that were fooled with at the factory to attain desired patterns. I suspect that the same experimenting with bore and choke dimensions occurred with 20...

HE 20 Bore and Choke
With all this discussion about smallbores, give me time for an easy question with some easy answers. There isn't much information on bore diameters and degrees of choke in Super Fox twenties . McIntosh mentions .033 of choke in 20 gauge Super Foxes, and skirts around "overbored" with no sp...

Re: BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG
Anything different for the 20 gauge than the "80 to 85 percent" guaranteed for the 12 gauge?

Re: BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG
What, exactly, were HE 20's guaranteed or not guaranteed to do? I don't have a selection of Fox catalogs and there isn't much information in the book. The serial number list, although interesting, is about it.
