Re: off topic cigars

Off topic reminds me of a gent I coached quite a bit on his search for a good Fox Ejector smallbore. He asked what he could do in return and I declined, but he insisted and since he usually was at the Northeast SxS I asked him to bring a good cigar. He did show that year and hunted me down with a fa...

Craig, if you ever come across a 12g/3 IN./32” HE that was “built light” at 8-1/4 to 8-1/2 lbs you may change your mind. :D frank

Re: 20 gauge sterlingworth

Jeff, thanks for taking the time to post. Looks like you’re having a good bird season so far. We both will kick back in after the PA deer season. Also, it looks like you did a nice job on your Sterly straight grip conversion. Hope to meet and compare PA bird hunting notes and Fox lore with you at th...

Just Right - Sterly 20b Straight Grip

I hunted with a friend yesterday in the NE PA mountains, we raised three grouse, shot at two and my Sterly 20b did the trick on this one. She's an early Fox (1913) with 28" tubes, opened to 2-3/4" and choked Mod and I-Mod, just about right for my bird hunting. I don't know who did the stra...

Re: 8 mm Mauser

Just found an even better ad for big bore fans like Mountain Mike from CADMUS Industries on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles. Solothurn 20MM anti-tank rifles!! Dave knows Mountain Mike and me. Pic of a legal Finnish Lahti 20 mm AT rifle we had a chance to shoot at a recent Stone Mountain MG shoot her...

Re: What's on your Fox shopping list???

If my memory is correct, one of the founding fathers has an XE with a quail on the underside. Am I correct? If I remember correctly one of our founding Life Members got a 26” XE 12 bore with a bird (quail, grouse?) in place of the fox. One of the guns from our friend the late Billy Harris. frank Gr...

Re: What's on your Fox shopping list???

Steggy, let's go with C Grade (as in school) on your Foxy education lapse. The head down Fox that looks like a hog searching for acorns (long time members joke) is the earlier version. Nothing on my Want list. I've pretty much shaken off the collector bug and have been selling guns I don't or ...

Re: Progress on a Grouse Gun 20

Thanks Tom, the cocking lever is broken off and curiously it looks like the small end of the lever - lower piece in the pic - is slightly deformed, expand to max to see. And if so I'd surmise that interference could have caused the breakage. Something for your man to check out. frank

Re: Progress on a Grouse Gun 20

Kind of interesting, first pic in the preceding post shows the head of a screw instead of a pin for the trigger pivot. First Kautzky I saw without a trigger pin. Also the "shoe" - for want of a better word - that the safety slide block bears against when ON SAFE, is mispositioned. I assume...

Re: Progress on a Grouse Gun 20

Tom, over past years you seemed to be almost an agent for a certain Custom Fox 'smith at his tables while at vintage SxS events and I remember you even refer to "we" and "our" while there. Am I correct that you've now shifted your custom work to one or more alternate persons who'...
