Re: 16 Sterlingworth hard to open...

I've experienced this same problem once in awhile with my 1929 Sterly 12. It's only when I fire both barrels though. I break the gun open over the top of my thigh! I load both Win. and Rem. using both primers. Like yours, the gun is used but not abused. Sometimes I wonder if there's a little swellin...

Re: Video?

There are disassembly instructions under the mechanism listing on the home page. Only takes a couple times and you'll be doing it with your eyes closed. Whatever you do, don't saturate the insides with oil.

Re: 12 Gauge AE #33074

I'm jealous, but happy for you and your great find! Great photos, they remind me of Bill " Pop " Headrick's pics. Actually I like the AE grade over a lot of the higher grades, it's not too busy with the engraving. I'm shoot a 12 and a 16 Philly Sterly, I remember my first pull of the trigg...

Re: X "special" 30" 16/20 2 barrel set

I know there's a little more maintenance with the hand rub, but there's also more beauty! There's a whole different feel to the wood. I think my buddy is wanting to turn the guns quicker. I have the patience, he doesn't. I'm in need of more Dembart's, any info on where I could get it in a couple day...

Re: Gunsmith

I have the same problem on my 16. My buddy sends his somewhere in Oregon I believe, I'll ask and let you know. Chris

Re: X "special" 30" 16/20 2 barrel set

Bobby, my buddy swears by the Brownell's Gun Sav'r stock spray finish. I am partial to hand rubbing and sanding with the oil only because blending repairs is easier. What do you prefer or think? Chris

Re: X "special" 30" 16/20 2 barrel set

I never thought of that Bobby. I usually recut the checkering, mask it off and then sand and rub in the linseed. How many coats do you sand in? Do you apply the last few coats without sanding/ I've sanded 4 coats of linseed in on mine already, the grain is pretty much filled. I may rub in a couple o...

Re: X "special" 30" 16/20 2 barrel set

Bobby, I refinish a lot of vintage shotguns with a friend, he finishes with a satin spray from Brownells. I'm refinishing my Sterly 16 with 4-5 coats of linseed oil to fill grain and then a few coats of tung oil or a Tru oil diluted with lighter fluid. Will this give me the same looking finish as yo...
