Re: Looking forward - let us hear your bird hunting plans
Stan, Great pictures. I've never dove hunted before...this fall Iowa will have its first dove season. I plan on "testing the waters" on September 1st. After that, I have a busy fall of duck hunting here in Iowa, pheasant hunting in Iowa and South Dakota, and prairie grouse hunting in South...

Re: End of season cleaning???
Silvers,
Thanks for the advice on the cleaning. I didn't want to take apart the "guts" of the gun if I didn't have to.
As for why would I put the Sterlingworth away...very simple. I'm not interested unless it has feathers. Period.

End of season cleaning???
Hey folks, I need some advice here. I'm a new Fox owner...I've shot a Sterlingworth for a good bit this fall and winter. Alas, pheasant season will soon close, and the gun will go into the safe for some time. After every hunt, I pull off the forearm and remove the barrels from the stock/receiver, an...

My old Fox still gets the game
I haven't posted here much, but I thought you all might enjoy some pictures of my Fox Sterlingworth from this fall. Enjoy. Looks like a good time, lots to see and learn.
I'm ignorant of such things...anyone know when and where about the 2011 Vintagers?

Re: game loads for a Fox Sterlingworth
I know a fellow who has shot an old LC Smith Field Grade 12 ga for a couple of decades for waterfowl. He has shot a lot of steel through those old tubes, which were fixed full and full. No problems, no barrel bulging, no nothing. He has since retired the gun in favor of others, but to say that the o...

Re: Non toxic shot options
Although I now understand that I have the appropriate chokes for a wide range of non-toxic loads, would the pressure generated via the firing of these loads be too much for my Fox to handle?

Re: Non toxic shot options
Sorry for the lengthy time that has elapsed before this reply, but I've been on vacation in the Black Hills since last weekend. Let me explain, when I sent my gun to Briley last fall, I wasn't planning to have screw in chokes placed, but instead was going to have one of the barrels opened from M to ...

Re: Non toxic shot options
Really? When I switch from Kent Fasteel, which is what I shoot most of the time for ducks and upland game, to the Classic Doubles loads, I notice shooting a lot more birds in the rear end with the same lead, which to me indicates that I am not compensating my lead for the slower load.

Non toxic shot options
Perhaps this has been covered before on the board, but what are everyone's opinions as to safe non-toxic shot options in a Fox Sterlingworth? I had Briley place screw in chokes in my gun that are non-toxic compatible, and I'm planning on shooting the Hevi Shot Classic Doubles load. However, this loa...

Re: New here...couple of questions
Bobby, Thanks for the info. The forearm did indeed pull right off when I pulled on it...I was leery of doing that until someone gave me the green light :D I'm still not sure about the safety. I've packaged up part of the gun, and I'm sending it back to Briley today so the experts can look it over. A...

New here...couple of questions
Hello all, I'm a new Fox Sterlingworth owner...I've never owned a Fox gun before. I've got a couple of questions that may be basic, but I don't want to hurt my gun. The gun is a 12 ga made in 1913. 1) How do you remove the forearm? 2) When I slide the safety tang from safe to fire, it catches...mean...
