Re: Drawbolt?

Mike - Thanks for the reply and that is great info. Your keeping and sharing of careful records is a benefit to everyone. It sounds like your Foxes are holding up well. DSizemore - Interesting that you were still seeing dimensional changes in the wood. Do you know how long the wood had been aged bef...

Re: Drawbolt?

(reviving an old thread) Hi Mike, I was doing research on drawbolt Sterlingworths and found this old thread: Just wondering whether you have put a bunch more rounds, especially the higher pressure factory target loads, through your high-volume Sterlingworth since your last post, and how is it holdin...

Re: Newbie with Questions about my fox/pictures inside

Nice looking Sterly! If properly cleaned (not too much oil) and stored, the steel and wood are as strong as the day the gun was made. Which, since this is a Fox, is very strong. It would be a shame not to put this gun back into regular hunting service. I have a 16ga Sterly that was restocked by the ...

Fox gunsmith recommendations

Hi All, I bought over the internet a 16ga Philly Sterlingworth with 28" barrels, unmolested chokes, an uncut but refinished stock, and chambers measured to about 2-9/16". I got a few surprises when I went to my FFL to pick it up. The good surprise was that this Sterly is a sweet little wan...

Re: Sources for Fox 16ga guns?

Thanks for all the info, everyone. I guess the sub-6 lb Fox's are much less common than I thought. I'll keep looking and see what turns up.

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith experienced in putting Fox's back on face for a reasonable fee?

Re: Sources for Fox 16ga guns?

Mike - I don't have a set price. I would be willing to pay fair market value for a non-collector gun considering its configuration and condition, and considering that the gun will be dragged through Appalachian briars and brambles. I didn't think a sub-6 lb gun was that hard to find? Especially if i...

Sources for Fox 16ga guns?

Hi All, I am new to the forum. A good friend of mine hunts a 20ga Fox Sterlingworth and it is one sweet little gun. I love how this gun handles and decided to start shopping for a 16ga Fox for myself. I am looking for a shooter condition Sterlingworth or lower-priced AE for grouse and woodcock hunti...
