Re: Foxy Lady Scores Again
Lee Thanks for the great photos, I'm leaving for the "stone fence post" country myself in a few hours and this makes the hunting prospects look good. There was some traffic on the Smith board this week implying that there weren't that many birds this year but it looks like you and the boys...

Re: Dogholes, apples and a Fox, paper shells added
Interesting about the paper shells, in the recent issue of Shooting Sportsman there is an article on the new McKay-Brown high pheasant gun and along with the details of the gun, the maker expresses his opinion that he gets better patterns with paper shells, fibre wads and low antimony shot. He is so...

Re: Vintagers pictures for your pleasure.
You're right Eightbore, it is a Barnett tag. That gun caught my eye too as Remington autos have always worked well for me. I spent some time studying it as it surely was a nice piece (for an auto). This was my first Vintager's Cup and it is really worth the trip if you're into fine guns. I was overw...

Re: Factory record checks
Frank - Beautiful gun, thanks for posting the pics. Boy, that "wood" really makes a nice looking stock. Good points about the advantages of membership on the Fox side also.
Cheers

Re: Help - AH Fox Hammer Main Springs
I was in the same position last spring as you are and Dan Rossiter of PSG gunsmithing was kind enough to explain to me how to do it. Yes, the spring are too stout to compress with your thumbs but the good news is that you don't have to compress them very far at all. The movement to seat the hammers ...

Re: Sterlingworth barrels
I guess I thought that Sterlingworths had a more limited selection of barrels in terms of weight and length, while the graded guns could be ordered on a more bespoke basis. Thanks for the clarification. PS the numbers on this particular set of barrels were fairly well struck away as you say is common

Sterlingworth barrels
In an attempt to increase my meager knowledge of things Fox, I would like to dip into the pool of knowledge here. Recently I was handling a Sterlingworth pin gun that had a very dynamic feel to it. Upon removing the forend to examine the barrels more closely in hopes of determining the superior feel...

Re: sight location
Spoken like a true machinist Frank, thanks for the insights. I left the gun with a local smith yesterday and he assured me that it would be no problem using his mill to get the bead exactly centered. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that the eye can detect a 3 thou deviation side to side wh...

Re: sight location
For me anyway, it depends how much time I have and how deliberate I am being with the shot as to how much I see the beads. Personally, I find it (them) helpful in ensuring that I have a good firm mount with my head down on the stock and now no side to side misalignment. Given that many of us don't h...

sight location
I plan to fit a middle sight bead to the rib of my Sterlingworth, however I'm not sure of the best location along the rib to provide the best sight picture. It occurs to me that the best location might be the same as on the original Foxes. Can someone tell me how far back from the muzzle the mid-bea...

Re: pressure
This has become a very interesting and informative thread. Being a newcomer to Fox lore, I didn't realize that there was a difference in the strength of Foxes from ~ 1905 to ~ 1930 as well as a change in the pressure standards of SAAMI, although it makes sense these things would evolve. Can anyone g...
