Re: Galazan or vintage fox DE

Hey guys

Got up to visit the guy to trade some pocket watches and he had already sold the fox DE. It was 12 ga, but I was not able to get a serial #.

Re: Galazan or vintage fox DE

Talked to the man who sold this gun to the present owner. He said it was a 12 ga and that the gun lettered with a Kautzky but it had been changed to a Miller. So not original and not a small bore. The present owner has been after this one for a long time, so probably not for sale. I still want to ge...

Re: Galazan or vintage fox DE

This one has not been offered for sale, so I'm waiting on an invite to check it out. Hope to see it in hand in a couple weeks. Thanks for all the helpful hints on what to look for. Any comments on original finish vs re-do? If its a small bore, i may never own it. I may have better pics of the trigge...

Re: Galazan or vintage fox DE

Thanks Bobby. This one does not have a scalloped frame, so most likely an original vintage fox. Will have to get it in hand to look for a restoration.

Galazan or vintage fox DE

A guy sent me some email pics of a DE fox. I only got a few close ups. He just bought it last week and from the totally new condition I am seeing, I am wondering if it is a newer Galazan version. Don't have a serial #. Any tell tale signs I could look for to differentiate. I may get to examine it in...

Re: Bo Whoop legal concerns; how were they resolved????

Yes Will, that is my understanding. I have been googling estate taxes to find the definitive answer, but I only see it given as examples. And it makes sense that if the cost basis is passed to the heirs at fair market value, that is the value used for inclusion in the estate. As for maintaining expe...

Re: Bo Whoop legal concerns; how were they resolved????

Bill People come here to get answers to their questions. Whether its the tax liability of selling a high dollar firearm, or safety of a twist Belgium klunker, we as a community need to give them our best collective answer. Brian, the original poster, asked about the tax and legal issues pertaining t...

Re: Bo Whoop legal concerns; how were they resolved????

You have the right idea concerning personal property. The IRS would not know about your lawn mower sale and probably not be interested if they did know. A $175000 highly publicized shotgun sale is a different matter. If someone knows them well enough to call and ask, but I feel sure a 1099 to the se...

Re: Bo Whoop legal concerns; how were they resolved????

Will wrote: "If inherited then inheretance taxes would be due on the fair market value at the time of death minus certain limits correct?" No. The fair market value at time of death is used to establish the tax payers COST BASIS. The cost basis is subtracted from the sales proceeds to dete...

Re: Bo Whoop legal concerns; how were they resolved????

The only difference in personal property appreciation and stock appreciation is the IRS knows about the stock sale, they do not GENERALLY know about the personal property sale. Got a feeling they will be all over this one. and I believe the previous owner will be getting a 1099 from Julia's, and/or ...

C grade forearm checkering

I have a 12g C grade serial # 239xx. It came to me with an after market BT forend. I need to know what the factory checkering pattern for a splinter forearm looks like. Any body have a C grade pic showing the full forearm checkering. Also, any other info I could give the stock maker, ie lines per in...

Will try to finds some pics, but I did have a fox with orig hang tags, and remember it to be a pin gun. The tags felt like a waxed canvas material, never could figure out exactly what it was.

If we do not see a consistent change over the years, perhaps we are looking at the individual engravers style. Could be they were done contemporarily by different engravers. If we could ever id one of the engravers work, we could assign others to him based on his dog.
