Re: Ridiculously heavy loads

I had such loads in my Model 12 Heavy Duck the first day I went to the Goose lease I joined on the Eastern Shore. Quickly learned they were either in over the decoys gear down and locked or they were going by so high Elmer couldn't get them with old serial number 500000, or a typewriter!! The great ...

MICRO-GAUGED

I couldn't help myself and had to pick up this Savage Arms Corp. ad from a 1936 issue of Hardware Age magazine --

Re: Ridiculously heavy loads

Those 1 7/8-ounce 12-gauge 3-inch Magnum Super-X loads first appear in the January 2, 1958, Western Catalog. The 1 5/8-ounce loads were introduced in 1935 along with the introduction of the Winchester Model 12 Heavy Duck.

Re: Barrel roll stamps

Are the roll-stamps John has A.H. Fox Gun Co., Savage or both. Mitzie obviously had roll-stamps to mark barrels as being A.H. Fox Gun Co. Chromox barrels --

Re: Fox DE Special sold at Rock Island

I'm really perplexed by Lot 467 the 20-gauge AE-Grade upgraded to FE. All that engraving, gold inlays and fancy checkering on a dirt plain table leg piece of wood?!? 200478 01 FE-Grade upgrade, 28-inch.png The 12-gauge upgrade Lot 468 has a bit better wood, but not up the original B-grade I posted t...

Re: Fox DE Special sold at Rock Island

That is the only picture I have of 19490. At the time I saw it a new stock was desperately needed. The story I was told at the time I saw it was that it had spent years in the groundskeepers shed at a Maryland golf course and was fired to start their tournaments.

Re: Odd serial number

It is from a KED-Grade, and is a lower serial number than I've previously recorded for a KED-Grade. Remington Arms Co. introduced the K-Grade, plain extractor and Remington Steel barrels, with an insert in some of their 1899 catalogs. The first 1901 Remington Arms Co. catalog shows the KED-Grade, ej...

Re: Fox 20

Savage didn't state 2 3/4-inch chambers in their A.H. Fox catalogs until 1938, and except for guns sent back for repair we don't see the marking on the barrels until 1939 or later guns -- 161267 10.jpg I have a 1933 vintage 16-gauge that has the old 2 7/16-inch chambers intended for the 2 9/16-inch ...

Re: Fox 20

The options of a recoil pad and twin ivory sights were available on the Sterlingworth from the introduction. The term Deluxe was used by Savage for a deal on combining those two options at a discounted price. This page was added to the relabeled 1929 A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalog that Savage used for 193...
