Re: Great woodcock outing / Immaculate reception!

Definitely Reynard. Reynard has become my go to gun since its completion. It has a bit of cast on for my Lefty mitts and a 15 1/8 LOP. Also, I worked with Dan Rossiter to make the 28-inch barrels pattern about 66% above the bead for the majority of my style of upland shooting which is rising birds. ...

Re: Great woodcock outing / Immaculate reception!

thanks for sharing that info on Reynard, i had researched that a while back and appreciate the name selected. also its not like you didnt have time to thoughtfully select a name as this was a loooong project. i am glad to see the Fox afield.my bad on calling it a 20 ga.cheers fred  "Thou...

Re: Great woodcock outing / Immaculate reception!

Roger, i second what Jeff said, also appreciate nod to hunting gods and toast. keep the tradition alive, also i thought the name Reynard was too masculine for that lovely 20 bore until i found out its origin, turns out it could not have been more appropriate. thanks for pics and post  Well, I ...

Re: Great woodcock outing / Immaculate reception!

Thanks for the kind words. However, Reynard is a 16 gauge. I would have a 20 gauge barrel made up for it in a heartbeat if I can find one.

I have 3 20 gauge Sterlingworth’s but none of them pop on.

Always fun to keep looking.

Re: Big day at my marsh

Jeff I was hunting with two other members so those pictures are two 18 bird limits. I can't explain how many ducks were in our marsh but it was in the thousands. Montezuma Refuge was frozen and we have a creek that runs through our marsh that rarely freezes until it gets really cold. The birds are ...

Re: Big day at my marsh

Looks like a grand time. In my youth the boys and I would put on our ice skates after a hard freeze and skate the swamps from open water to open water where the springs kept the ice at bay and jump shoot mallards and occasionally coots. Good times. Got wet more than once but it was pretty shallow in...

Great woodcock outing / Immaculate reception!

I have not had a great PA deer season so far and was planning on going it alone today for an all day sit when my buddy Mike texted me and suggested that we go over to New Jersey for the last day of the first split of woodcock season before the NJ deer season opens on Monday. I used my custom 16 gaug...

Re: The Season Almost Over

Saturday hit the swamp again and flushed a hen in morning and rooster in afternoon so season most likely ended on consecutive hits (unlike Monday when I went 0/9 with 16 shots fired from one of my SW.....it was simply one of those days where everything looked right when you pulled the trigger but r...

Re: Hunting for Woodcock

What a difference a week and high wind and rainy conditions makes.

Looks like woodcock are on the move finally. Should be much improved in the good areas.

Re: Hunting for Woodcock

I spent way too much time in a spot that usually has standing water but was dry and saw no birds. If you can, find spots with water. The birds that are in flight will find it.

Re: Hunting for Woodcock

Thanks. I needed to take the longer barrels out to take them through their paces. Last year the 28's were never off the gun and my shooting, at least in my head, was so much improved I didn't want to break the spell. The shorter barrels are definitely choked for the close in work that woodcock most ...

Hunting for Woodcock

Well, the migration has been so delayed/poor in the areas I hunt because it has been so hot and dry that I put off getting out and instead concentrated on bow hunting the beginning of the rut. I finally couldn't stand it any longer and got out for an 11,000 step stroll in the concentrated areas I hu...
