Re: barrel grade

On each of the FOX BARREL WEIGHTS sheets it states "Allowance for finish is included in given dimensions". What exactly does this mean?

Re: Sterlingworth engraving

Was the larger lettering unique to 12-ga. Sterlingworths or are there some 20s and 16s out there as well?

Re: 2019 Northeast SxS (Hidden Hollow)

I never realzed Tom, that some liken you to Mr. Maggoo. Here all along I've always thought you were the same guy that does the commercials for Farmer's Insurance. You know, the handsome confident fella with the line that always ends the commercial with: "We know a thing or two, because we've se...

Re: Lefever scores on PA grouse!

According to an article that appeared on the Ruffed Grouse Society's blog there are actually 5 color phases of Ruffed Grouse -- red, gray, intermediate, brown and split.

Re: MM's chart of barrel weights

I agree, at the end of the day most of us want a gun that handles well. But, as we know, some could care less. Each and every thread is not for each and every one. However, there are some that like to delve a little deeper, it's them that get a kick out of the esoteric stuff. A thread like this is f...

Re: MM's chart of barrel weights

In his book on A.H. Fox and in the chapter Over Here, Over There where the barrel weight charts are shown, McIntosh made mention that " According to factory standards, barrels could not vary more than one ounce per pair from the weights specified ", but makes no mention of another notation...

Re: question about early model C barrel

So what you're saying is the you knowingly have an early C-Grade gun with early B-Grade engraved barrels, correct? Do the serial numbers match and appear with the same font? (Pics would help).

Re: question about early model C barrel

Your gun appears to be an early B-Grade with standard B-Grade engraving on the frame and barrels.

Re: MM's chart of barrel weights

Take note that on page 154 of "the book" the bottom line, for the 4-weight 32-inch barrel, should be 3 pounds 0 ounces. I assume you're referring to 20-ga. barrels weights. Perhaps there was a typo in the 1992 1st Edition of the book, my revised 2nd edition is correct per the above chart....

Re: MM's chart of barrel weights

A member of the A.H. Fox Collectors on Face Book reports that his 12-ga. A-grade Fox's barrels which are stamped as being 4-weight actually weigh 3 lbs. 3 oz. He didn't mention if the extractor slides were or were not included in his barrel's finished weight, but it is assumed they were included. Mi...

Re: Advice Please for a Fox Newbie

The best advice is don't. Don't get involved with old wood, old metal, old solder, short chambers, bad stock dimensions, etc. Buy a new RBL -- new wood, new metal, good dimensions, "Cryo Pattern" stress relieved barrels with "Tuff Bore" coating allowing you to use any type of lo...

Re: MM's chart of barrel weights

Bamboozler, The barrels that Jason has came from the stock that Mitzi had. I realize that Foxnut, thanks. I probably could have been more clear in my question if I had asked Bobby if Mitzie might have finished them to some degree, i.e. by adding the ejectors/extractors, matting the rib, etc. Whethe...

Bobby, were the barrels you bought from Mitzie in a similar condition as the unfinished barrels that Jason at Pumpkin Mt. is selling?
