Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

OK, I can't seem to come to terms with the look of the current stock. I guess I agree with whoever said it looked like a canoe paddle, or it wasn't "foxy" enough. The seller will let it go for 1,600-1,700, but then I'd need to restock it. Won't that set me back 2,000 or so?

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

"There is greater pressure as the gauges go from 12 to 16 to 20 etc. therefore the minimum values might increase."

If this is true, and the gun I'm considering is a 20 gauge, then isn't .026 as one of the barrel thickness measurements a bit on the thin side?

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

The gentleman selling this gun has informed me that the barrel diameters are .603 and .608. The barrel wall thicknesses are respectively .030 and .026. Do these measurements sound acceptable (safe)?

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

The guy who's offering this gun for sale just called me and brought the price from 2,500 down to 1,700.

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

Yes, I agree with whoever said the stock didn't look "Foxy" enough. I'm still in the market for a Sterlingworth 20 gauge: needn't be a straight stock.

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

Thanks for all the detailed responses. If it is not too much trouble, could someone post a photo of a Fox with the English style stock... the way it is supposed to look? Couldn't find an example on the web.

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

Thanks again Silvers... it looks like, from the photos anyway, that the forend and the stock match nicely. Would the man who restocked this gun also have had the forend redone?

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock

Here's a few more pictures. Also, I spoke with the seller who confirms that it is a custom restocking and that the original was an English stock, too. He claims the chambers are 2 3/4 inches with IC and Mod chokes. Yes, it has auto ejectors. Silvers, could you expound upon what you said about people...
