Re: Desert quail with a Sterly 16
Great pics and some beautiful birds and DOG! Any issues with cactus for the dog? Thanks! Prickly stuff is always an issue. I just chalk it up to being part of the desert experience for the dogs and the hunters. The dogs tend to avoid the bigger cacti, but the little ones can still cause problems.

WTB: grip cap screw, Sterly 16.
The one thing bugging me on the Sterlingworth I just picked up is that the grip cap screw is a round-head instead of an oval head. It looks stupid sticking out the way it does. Does anyone have the correct screw for sale? Or, what should I use as a more correct replacement? I can't seem to find a cl...

Re: Desert quail with a Sterly 16
krcrowley, Looks like a great time with your new Sterly.,Would you mind sharing what state and what breed of quail? That would be fun!! Arizona - Gambel's and Scaled (Blue) quail. We have three species of quail in AZ (four if you include the highly endangered Masked bobwhite). Here's a photo of all...

Re: Desert quail with a Sterly 16
It's the 3 1/8 DOH that's the killer. I much prefer something modern like 2 1/4. The 1905 Parker I have is 3 1/4 DOH, so I know I just need practice with it.

Desert quail with a Sterly 16
New gun to me and I'm still adjusting to the dimensions. Years ago I used a Parker with similar drop and I got pretty good with it, but since then most of my doubles of choice have more modern dimensions and it's taking some time to figure it out again. But a few days in the field with the Fox and I...

Re: Do 5 wt barrels exist?
Congratulations on your 16 ga. Sterlingworth. They are wonderful guns and a delight to carry. Looks like you had a very successful hunt. According to the chart in McIntosh’s book, a 28” set of 16 ga., 4 weight barrels should weigh 3 lbs, 1 oz., but remember that is the “unstuck” weight. That means ...

Re: Do 5 wt barrels exist?
Best photo I can get without setting up special lighting. Left bbl has a number (circled), right has nothing discernable. Must be a "3" if 5s don't exist. But the barrels are pretty dang light at 2lbs 13.5oz. Someone must've taken some weight off somewhere, but I can't see it. In fact, the...

Do 5 wt barrels exist?
Hi all, New to the forum. I just picked up a 16ga Sterlingworth, 1921 made, that weighs 5-14.8 with 28 inch bbls. The barrels weigh 2-13.5 on a postal scale which has always been reliable. Of course, that doesn't jive with anything I've read about Fox barrels. They are uncut and chambers are origina...
