Silvers, Thanks for your detailed explanation on how the tube soldering process works. You're right the sighting plane is concave rather than convex on the Fox. For me, the older shotgun is harder the shoot properly than my newer shotguns with pronounced ribs. I guess it just takes a little practice...

Question about tubes

I have what might be considered a dumb question. What is the construction technique was used to attach the barrel tubes and rib? Were all three pieces simply soldered together? I'm a new Fox owner and my 20 ga. barrels have a nice "ring" but there seems to be a very slight void in the &quo...

Silvers, Thanks for your input. This has been a learning experience for me. I agree that shooting known low pressure ammo in these old guns, is the safest course of action. I would just like to better understand the relationship of these parameters (i.e. DE, shot load, FPS, and PSI). Obviously, prim...

Thanks Peter,

I have been looking at those as well in the 2 3/4 "lite" variety. RST told me the specs on the 2 3/4" "lites" are:

2 1/4 DE 6800PSI 1050FPS

Which is kind of what sparked my original question on this. Thanks to all for input on this.

Guys, Thanks for all of your insights on this. I'm not a lawyer, but my interpretation of "modern gun" in the context of the scary notice on the shell box, is " a gun without Damascus steel barrels". As others have said, I'm more worried about damage and wear to wood than about t...

Rem STS managed-recoil shells

All, I just bought a 20 ga PA Sterlingworth that was appearently made in 1924 (factory letter has been requested but has not been received yet). The chambers have been lengthened to 2 3/4". The gun is just under 6 lbs. and is in excellent condition and I would like to keep it that way. (This ha...

Cal,

Have you ever checked to see if the chambers have been lengthened in the 20?

Calgunner,

That's a great picture. I'm just curious.....where did you come across the 1945 shells? Are they are paper hulls?

Researcher,

Thank you for the information. Mine was made in 1924 and is a hair under 6 pounds. I will go with the 2 1/2" 7/8 oz. RSTs.

20 ga chambers

Hi all, Just bought a 20 ga Pa Sterlingworth which is in great condition, with the orig barrels. I understand most of these left the factory with 2 3/8" chambers, but I inserted a 20 ga chamber gauge (.685") and it went in to 2 3/4". Does that mean it has been modified? Should I still...
