Thanks for pictures and serial number breakdown. Do we know the reason for different styles? The two most common reasons I have come across for any changes like this is money (cost effectiveness, easier to make) or improvement in the part. Thanks again for the background and dates!!!

Sterlingworth recessed pin gun, slotted or smooth?
I have noticed there is a variation of the recessed pin (slotted and smooth) on the Sterlingworth Pin Guns in a relatively short period when they were available. Why were there two different styles?

I am continually amazed at the craftsmanship and devotion of time and energy that it took to create these incredible firearms from over a century ago!! When you see pieces like this how can you not succumb to the "double gun disease"!!

Thank you for the information; you are always an awesome source of vintage sxs knowledge. The checkering looked different than anything else that I could find on any Sterlingworth or even higher graded guns. The seller said that it was a custom made gun... but "custom made" covers a lot of...
