Re: New to Fox guns

Very nice Eric, I'm sure you will enjoy your Sterlingworth and I bet it won't be your last. Do yourself and the gun a favor and stop using the 0000 steel wool on the metal. Instead order some of these http://www.big45metalcleaner.com to clean the metal surfaces on your gun. You won't use anything e...

Re: New to Fox guns

Got the cleaning pads in. Going to take some time to clean off decades worth of grime. They work great on an old police trade in revolver that I thought would need refinishing. Next step is pulling the stock off. The safety is difficult to move, so I’m guessing the action has gummed up oil and dust....

This is it. I’ve been using oil and some 0000 steel wool to get grime off the barrels & I can’t believe how much crud is coming off.

Re: New to Fox guns

post some pictures when you get the gun.....no need to wait for fall and game..... I’ll take a stab at posting. I got the gun today. Needs a grip cap and a replacement recoil pad (as well as the old screw holes plugged and redrilled. The right barrel has a small dent but otherwise it’s not b...

A different question on loads

Once my Sterlingworth gets here and I can get it checked out, I plan to use light loads. The question of which shells to use has been rehashed plenty of times already. I want to preserve the gun so I’ll baby it. What I’m wondering, is whether anything changed in the manufacturing of guns when loadin...

Re: New to Fox guns

Uh-oh. I already have an impulse buying problem with guns. This could get very expensive.

Re: New to Fox guns

Welcome aboard Eric. I look forward to seeing pictures of your Sterly with some freshly harvested "game". What are your plans for that gun? Pheasants, ducks, doves, grouse, rabbits? My hope is that I’ll be taking pictures of my Golden, my SW and some pheasants next fall. Depending on whet...

New to Fox guns

I’ve got a Sterlingworth inbound that is approximately a 1914 vintage. It’s my first Fox, so I joined up here to learn more about the guns. Even though it’s the bottom of the line, I’ll be proud to own it and may even take it out hunting if it is in good working order.
