Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?

(snip) ..... Hunted hard and just shellac peeling off from hard use. They didn't put an oil finish on those Sterly's. Actually Sterlingworths of your vintage were finished with E I duPont's 'Duco" nitrocellulose lacquer with some stain added. Lacquer thinner might be better for cleanup of the ...

Re: Southern

Unfortunately at my stage in life work continues to interfere with anything more than an overnight 400mi one way road trip.

Sad dog to happy dog. The depression expression in "the cone" picture is worth a 1000 words.

Re: What is your favorite Sterlingworth??

I have 3. My first Fox of any kind (well, all 3 Fox I own are SW) is a restocked/forensic with beaver tail 26" IC/M. Little CC but shoots well. Next is a 30" M/F that has nice case coloring and had the wood refinished very nicely. Decent stock dimensions. Last is a 30" F/F with terrib...

Fox 12g Sterli

MA pheasants. Although stocked, the ones that survive the first 48 become quite educated. They run zig zag between the corn rows plus running into the grass to loop back behind you. Drives the dogs crazy. But teamwork prevailed and they flushed a hen and rooster and the Sterli did the rest.

Re: What's on your Fox shopping list???

I should clarify, my assessment on the lack of interest in vintage SxS wasn't so much from a collector's standpoint (I think there will always be a market for vintage collectibles of any kind) but rather interest in just having a vintage workhorse SxS for upland or waterfowl hunting. The last 2 phea...

Re: What's on your Fox shopping list???

Steggy, let's go with C Grade (as in school) on your Foxy education lapse. The head down Fox that looks like a hog searching for acorns (long time members joke) is the earlier version. Nothing on my Want list. I've pretty much shaken off the collector bug and have been selling guns I don't or...

A plain old SW 20g with open chokes and good stock dimensions in honest condition.

Re: Iconic Fox guns for the less well healed??

20g SW with 26/28 barrels and nothing tighter than M is what I intend to buy someday. As Frank mentions, with good stock dimensions. I bought 1 or 2 SxS with unfavorable dimensions (luckily <$400 each) and cant hit a thing (see pic in hunting with a fox of SW with cardboard comb and electrical tape).

LCS & Parker

Silver's former LCS Field 16g and a Parker VH 12g connect. Most importantly, the dogs had a great time and I had a great time watching them have a great time.
