Re: 16ga

I almost never see a 16 ga Fox around here. But today, at a local Virginia gun show there were two. Both Sterlingworths, one at 28” and one at 30”.
$950 each. I thought that was very fair.

Re: CURIOUS FOX WITH 2 BARRELS

I have a Philly 20 ga AE with two sets of barrels. The second set, from Savage, is serial numbered to the gun but does not have the number 2 under the serial number.

Missing letter

I just noticed this. Both sides of my Philly Sterlingworth.
The “I” is missing. Looks like it was never stamped.
Is this normal?

Re: Safety too tight

The gun is going to Dean Harris for a dent I just put in the muzzle. I’ll ask him to look at the safety while it’s there.
Thanks for the replies.

Safety too tight

I have a nice 20 ga AE perfect in every way (for me) except for that damn safety.
I’ve missed 3 birds this year because I just couldn’t get the safety off quick enough.
I live in Northern Virginia. Any suggestions on a gunsmith in my area who could handle this for me?

Yep. Here’s my 20 ga AE two barrel set. One forend will fit both barrels. The other only fits one.

Almost all of my hunting is for little brown birds. Even though I have several really nice guns, including a custom 20 ga Fox AE, this old 20 ga Sterlingworth is a keeper.

High mountain woodcock.

IMG_8989.jpeg
[*]This was a short hunt yesterday at 3200 ft in West Virginia. The wind was blowing at about 35 MPH. Gunner pointed this woodcock 50 yards from the truck before I could even load my gun.
A nice start to the season.

Re: Chamber wall thickness

OK. I’ve still got all my fingers… I took that old Fox to the clays course. I shot 25 rounds of RST’s and then shot 50 rounds of 2 3/4” target loads. No issues at all. Recoil seemed to be about the same and opening and ejection was fine. I know that recoil isn’t an indicator of pressure but there di...

Re: Chamber wall thickness

Wally World Winchester or Federal 100-packs (4 boxes ea.) are now working out to c. $10 per box in either 12 or 20 gauge. Kevin I’ve got 8 cases of 20 ga RST’s in 7 1/2 and 8 shot. But I also have 15 cases of 20 ga 2 3/4” target loads that I’d rather be shooting up at targets. So if everyone thinks...

Re: Chamber wall thickness

I’m not worried at all about the stock cracking. I had this one restocked. But I would like to shoot something less expensive than $20 a box RST’s.

Chamber wall thickness

My 20 ga Fox AE was originally chambered at 2 1/2”. I had the chamber wall measured and found it had been rechambered to 2 3/4”. The chamber wall thickness is .085. I’m assuming the original owner shot many 2 3/4” shells out of this gun but I’ve never shot anything but 2 1/2” RST’s. What’s the conse...
