Cut Barrels

Although perhaps not definitive, something to look at might be the rib if you don't have access to all the bore tools. My early A two barrel set has 30" and 26". The 26" have a gap. But as a result of looking closely at the muzzles and checking with my micrometer, I found that the wid...

Fox Barrel

I really wish they had a decal like that...I'd put it on my guncase!

HE 20

It seems to me I recall that the HE guns had dimensionally different specs in the frame than a standard frame. And I think McIntosh's book references them. Perhaps that could be checked against this gun. Then again, I recall I once had a life, and I can't remember it that's true or not either.

Ribs

I've gotten the idea over time that there can be a lot of variation in details. My observation is simply that when you have a situation in which the rib width at each end for two different length barrel sets is exactly the same, it would seem to imply that at least some sort of standard was applied ...

Cabelas A Grade Two Barrel Set

The first pic is from Cablelas, showing the muzzels of a two barrel set....30" and 26". There have been several discussions about short Fox barrels with spacing between the tubes being cut or original. Looking at this picture is struck me that the rib on the short barrles is clearly wider ...

Three Barrel Gun Co

Not a trap, but for a great example of a Three Barrel Gun, go to Cabelas in their American Guns section.

Baltimore Arms

I'll have to take a look, but I think it's an old Baltimore Arms gun I have, marked "FOX", which I picked up over 10 years ago for "nothing" and it's been about that long since I've looked at it. The reason it was "nothing" is because it's WELL worn - not sure why I eve...

I have four or five Fox doubles with 26-inch barrels that letter and none touch at the muzzle. I'm sure glad you said that, as my 26" barrel set for my old AE two barrel set has a slight space between the barrels (which, was added after 1911 per the patent date on the forend iron). Yet, they'r...

Barrells

When looking at the pics, it struck me that there seemed to be a little too much metal width where the barrels meet. I tried to monkey with the image to pick up the lines of the tubes, but couldn't quite do it. As the barrels are listed as 30", it wouldn't seem they've ever been cut. Ever see a...

Early AE 12 Ga 2 Barrel Set

I've attached photos of my AE two barrel set, which letters out as a 30" single barrel gun (a Roe Clark letter from maybe 10 years ago). Taking a look at the pics of the barrels/forends, it becomes immediate clear that the 26" barrel set was added after 1911, as the forend iron has the 191...

Rugged Gear

The Ruggend Gear racks have a clamp thingy on the upper mount which allows you to move the barrel clamp in any direction you want in a nano second. I can switch it back and forth easily between any barrel type.

I also recommend the Dr Pepper!

Big Bore Smiths

Have you consulted a physician about that problem? Well, anyway, I was at the Ft Worth Cabelas today and they had four 10 bore guns in their Gun Library. I swear they were Smiths, but I'm not sure as I wasn't really interested myself. They were all sitting next to each other on the same rack. That's...

Colors

Since we're sorta on the subject, and if Dewey is still around, can colors be "reapplied" without bringing the temperature up to hardning levels? I've got a nice Ithaca with a micro millimeter warped frame due to a bad recasing job.

Fox comp guns

We'll find out what can be done with a side by side in competition when Tony Galazan puts a Master Class NSCA competitor out on the "tour" with one of his Foxes or Model 21s. I would assume a two barrel set, 32" and 34" with high ventilated ribs will take care of all targets, in...

Doubles and Clays

For myself, the first time I ever shot a shotgun was about 1990 when I was about 42. A friend was throwing clays from a simple trap and I had my dad's A5. So I took it out and tried it. I've been hooked ever since. Yes, I led a neglected childhood as I was never taken hunting. :( In the late 90s I w...
