looking closer the crack actually is a chip of thin wood from middle to top right behind the reciever. it hasnt advanced enough to fall out but a few more shots ?? So how should i try to stop it from getting worse? I should add that this is my every day hunter,stock was already cut with a recoil pad...

ok thanks looks like the reciever mashed the center of the staple flattening the center section and possibly cracking the stock.
