Re: Pa grouse hunt
I know how you feel. I have killed plenty of birds over the years, so that in its self isn't important, but you want to kill a few for a young dig.

Pa grouse hunt
IMG_20231028_124358_050_copy_576x576.jpg It was a good morning for finding grouse in Potter County. We moved 12 birds in 2 different cuts in just under 4 hours. Lilah is really starting to figure these birds out. She bumped 2 different pairs of birds, but had 5 solid points on 3 single birds and 2 ...

Re: Late season in Pa
Very nice! Way to get it done. Not much time left in the season and no second season after 12/23 this year in PA! I was thinking of going out on the Dec 24, I'm curious what the thinking was on ending it on the 23rd? No hunting Christmas eve :( I'm not sure why they are closing it the 23rd. They al...

Re: Late season in Pa
Yeah, I miss the late season. Bird numbers are up this year. Good for you in northwest PA but not in the northeast, both ime and as reported by good grouse hunters hereabouts. Trend has continued to the worst season I can remember since I started chasing grouse in my 'teens. Too bad the RGS and PGC...

Re: Lab in the uplands
Yes Stan they do locate and flush birds but unlike a pointing dog who gives you plenty of time, if you are lucky, to set up for the shot, a flusher does not. I have learned to watch my dog's body language when he hits bird scent. It changes very quickly but gives me enough warning to anticipate a f...

Lilah's first bird
Lilah's first bird wasn't a grouse, like I hoped, but it was an awesome moment. I started the day hunting grouse with Koal the Doodle. We put up 2 grouse at the first spot, but I wasn't able to connect. We then went looking for woodcock. I was able to connect on the 1st bird but whiffed on the secon...

Re: Grouse out, now for Pheasants
5 grouse is doing good in Pa. I only managed 3 for the year, due to poor shooting. I usually average around 10.
