Re: Thanksgiving hunts.....(-:
My oldest and I will be doing a little tank hopping for ducks in the morning. If we happen across the Gambles, then so be it. Then it will be back to the house to help with all the cooking.

Re: Fix for seeing Photobucket pics
He might be using an older version of Chrome. I got the info elsewhere, but just wrote how to implement it on the two versions I run. He just needs to find out where to go to add extensions in his version and he should be good to go.

Fix for seeing Photobucket pics
If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions...

Re: Custom Sterly
I got my gun back from the engraver a couple of days ago and just sent it out to Classic Guns to be color case hardened. Here's a few pictures: 21766622_2062408920645069_7988574764727657626_n.jpg 21768241_2062408873978407_1444783926420198312_n.jpg 21768248_2062408853978409_4271152355808985117_n.jpg ...

Re: Custom Sterly
Good to know. I didnt know how they were originally soldered. Seems like it would be simple enough to build an apparatus to do it that way now. I believe that the school is looking at the gun industry as a whole when it sets up its curriculum. While there is a need for quality double gun smiths, wit...

Re: Custom Sterly
No, I did not keep heat on the full length of the barrels. I used a propane torch with a flame spreader so as to heat the area I was working on as evenly on both sides of the rib as possible. I used 50/50 lead/tin solder and nokorode regular paste flux. It was a learning experience for sure. I need ...

Re: Custom Sterly
Looks like I spoke too soon. I looked at it all, and it was only the front bit of the lower rib that separated. With the help of some spring clamps, iron wire, and a nail, I was able to bring it all back together. Hanging it from the hook, the barrels ring real nice now. I'll post before cleanup and...

Re: Custom Sterly
Well, relaying shotgun ribs is frustrating to say the least. This being my first time and all, I knew I would run into issues. I thought I had finally got it. When I was finishing up the muzzle end, the lower rib popped and the ends of the barrels shifted. I hope that was the only point. Once it coo...

Re: Custom Sterly
Great pictures and wood, your bench looks a lot like mine! Bobby If by "looks like mine" you mean cluttered and not sure how you can find or do anything on it, I bet we're not alone! I have the barrels cleaned up enough to resolder the rib on. However, when I went to heat up the rib again ...

Re: Custom Sterly
Well, since the gun is out being engraved, I figured I would start on the barrels today. Part of the top rib had separated, so off it comes! http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac169/dysfunction8/Mobile%20Uploads/0622171511_zpsd56lcxor.jpg apce All in all the space between the ribs doesn't look too t...

Re: Custom Sterly
I found this English Walnut on Ebay and couldn't pass it up. This will end up being the new wood for the Sterly. http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac169/dysfunction8/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20170531_100628501_zpsqyhmcvxz.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac169/dysfunction8/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20...

Re: Custom Sterly
It will be mostly rose and scroll. I did ask for a fox on the underside, and to see if he could fit some ducks and/or pheasants on the sides, so we'll see. He's going to do some sketches and send me pictures prior to starting. He just wanted the gun in hand so he could try to get the shape of the re...
