Re: Inconsistent ejector function

All fixed. The sear spring tension was certainly a part of the behavioral issues. I think though, that the oversized OD of the left hammer spring, and how it's movements were restricted, had more to do with light strikes, which would still trip the ejector sear. Anyway, the gun is fixed and threw 24...

SN check: 94559

Would a manufacturing year be available for 94559 from anyone here, or would a factory letter be needed to discover that data point?
Thank you.

Re: Inconsistent ejector function

Thanks. I’ve worked with Jason on several things, seeking many parts, etc. I know he’s a busy fellow so hadn’t thought of troubling him with this. I have partially disassembled again and recognized that the left hammer spring did not have a much freedom of movement as the right, so I swapped it out ...

Re: Inconsistent ejector function

Thank you. The owner reported the problem prior to arrival. When I disassembled then gun, there was sand inside. The gun was completed disassembled, ultrasonic cleaned, lightly lubed as it was put back together. The problem remains, and now the gun is clean, so dirt or old lube is not the problem. I...

Inconsistent ejector function

The gun is a Savage-era 20ga ejector. This is the second such gun I’ve been involved with that has this problem. The first was cut on both ends, problem never resolved, and given away to a friend. Looking at the notes will illustrate the behavior, but essentially you get 50% correct behavior firing ...

Re: Lacquer for case colors

I used some of that stuff this week to seal some damascus and twist barrels with great success. Goes on easy, nice sheen, very clear.

Re: "Fox" Philly gun education

What year was this one made, and can a factory letter be generated for them?
Are these still considered a Fox?
What is mechanically different internally from the Fox action more commonly known?
Anything prone to being problematic i.e. part breakage?

Thank you.

Re: "Fox" Philly gun education

Thanks Jolly. I’d assume then that this is an A grade, figuring that A would be the lowest grade.

I sent Researcher the number and specs on the gun earlier today for his records.

I don't know. I was hoping that the description might help identify a grade.

"Fox" Philly gun education

Hi Folks. What are the highlights a person needs to know about the old "Fox" guns? Happened upon a 12ga, sn 1488. 30", full/full, Krupp, simple border engraving, forend latch like a Parker, and three trigger plate screws. Appreciate any general info. Will of course be ordering a lette...

Re: Safety reset to on from innertia

The fellow I'd prefer to send this to for repair is not able to take in another gun right now. I've not sent one out to repair before, having been able to fix everything myself thus far. Who do folks recommend near NC for an issue like this?
Thanks!

Re: Safety reset to on from innertia

There are at least two other possible explanations that I am aware of. 1) If the slide moves really loosely from front to rear, and vice versa, it is possible for the forward recoil motion of the gun, after the rearward movement of the gun in recoil the gun returns to it's starting place, to cause ...

Re: Safety reset to on from innertia

If it’s not the top lever moving that’s placing it back on safe, what else would it be?

Safety reset to on from innertia

A 1937 20ga Stelingworth ejector in the family has started to put the safety back on after firing. One opinion shared with me is that it's doing so because the bite is wrong from wear or modification; and another is that the top lever spring is weak. The theory is that the firing of the gun causes t...
