Re: Sterlingworth made into Modern XE

Yes the metal was annealed in my kitchen oven. Just running it through the cleaning mode is enough to soften up the surface.
Thanks for the compliments, Tim Gall

Sterlingworth made into Modern XE

Here is the 20 gauge Sterlingworth made into a modern XE pattern. I had to do a lot of filing and sanding before I could even start the engraving. The leaf pattern was inspired by another upgraded gun I saw on this forum. I will be sending it out for case coloring soon. I will have to see how much o...

Re: Fox A Grade Re-Cut Engraving

The gun is being refurbished by Bachelders Master Gun Makers in Grand Rapids MI. I did not see the barrels so I don't know what kind of shape they were in. I did the engraving. I am also just finishing up a modern version of an XE grade. The donor gun was a 20 ga Phili sterlingworth with ejectors an...

Fox A Grade Re-Cut Engraving

Here is a Fox A grade that was badly pitted. To get most of the pits out, a lot of the engraving was destroyed. The fences had a very unique stippling which I had to make a special tool for. Seems to have come out very well. I will post some before and after pics. Thanks, Tim

Re: Fox Sterlingworth 12ga Project

I am looking forward to getting the wood on and doing the final polishing. I still need to do something with the hinge pins that someone hammered on. I may just kiss them with an endmill and put a flat on them. The chokes after lopping off an 1" from the barrels would be right .025 and left .02...

Re: Fox Sterlingworth 12ga Project

I finally finished roughing all of the metal to 150 grit. I reassembled the gun on the original stock. It currently weighs 7 lbs 5.6 ozs with the recoil pad. It is currently balanced about 1-3/4” in front of the hinge pin. I am going with a skeleton but plate and need to add 5/8” to the length of th...

Re: 28 gauge barrels

I actually had this done to an old Parker 20 gauge last year. The only place I could find to do it was Briley. I was not very impressed with their work. The rust bluing was so so. They left some pitting on the outside of the old barrel section of the monoblock. And the gun came back slightly off fac...

Re: Procedure on removing hammers

Unfortunately the instructions listed do not tell you how to completely disassemble the entire action. They only tell you what needs to be done to remove the stock.
