My Southern purchase
I purchased 22487 a XE 12ga 30" at the Southern from Josh. Josh cut me a good deal but the gun had a few issues that were a bit of a gamble for me. The gun's action had been coated with and oil based finish (Tru-oil?)that was thick and quite dark. The gun also had a very small crack in the head...

Re: XE triggerguards
All the heads down XE's and DE's of the same period are blued. I believe the trigger guards were changed to CC when the frames were rebated and the engraving was modified to the heads up fox design.

Re: A Fox Dilemma
I have never opened chokes on any gun. I'm not a fan of this for any reason. If you feel the need for a competition gun buy a Fausti or Perazzi DC 12.

Re: Little Model 17
I my opinion Remington engraving and craftsmanship on D's, E's and F's is among the best of any AMERICAN built gun, sxs, pumps or autos. I'm amazed how under appreciated they are in the market today. If you have not seriously ever considered graded Remington shotguns take a look and I promise you wi...

Re: New to fox / Should I restore?
The C grade in your last picture looks very nice but well used. I would advise you to leave them as is. Restoration is costly ($3000.+) if done by a top double gun craftsman and will not increase the value. Collector value honest untouched guns even if well used but not abused.

Re: HE 20 Bore and Choke
The reason I am requesting the bore diameters of HE 20s is that 12 gauge Supers are all over the map, not just early and late guns, but probably guns that were fooled with at the factory to attain desired patterns. I suspect that the same experimenting with bore and choke dimensions occurred with 2...
