Re: light weight 16 gauge guns
My A grade 16 with #4 weight barrels is 5 lbs. 13.02 oz. I just wish it had higher stock dimensions as it just does not fit me well (but is a joy to carry!).

Re: Foxes at Rock Island
The Wildfowl was a steal in my opinion. But I've always had trouble pulling the trigger at RIA based on the limited photos they provide. We live within about 3.5 hours from Rock Island and so usually drive up for the viewing day. Although I have had good luck buying from the old Julia's auction ser...

Foxes at Rock Island
Anyone else following the Rock Island auction? I was surprised at how low some of the doubles have sold for, especially the H that sold yesterday. I looked it over in person, obviously without the benefit of knowing the state of the chambers, chokes etc., but it sure looked like a nice example to go...

Re: Early CE w/Banner and Scroll Engraving
The fact that they don't exist doesn't make me not want one any less...but I guess I can find consolation in the fact that I won't miss one if it comes up for sale.

Re: Cheek panel restoration
I bought a nice old Parker DH and took it to Brad Bachelder for restoration (it needed it). It was pinned at the head and I thought it would require a new stock. Not so! Brad attached two panels that are absolutely undetectable, even under magnification. I still can't figure out how he did it. I can...

Re: Advice Please for a Fox Newbie
Regardless of the course of action you take based on the advice you've gotten here, I would suggest that whatever you buy or the path you take to acquire your first Fox, you will probably want something else (or more) later, and your taste will likely change as you get better acquainted with these f...

Re: CE 16 bore -- No Safety
Thanks, Garry, we ran into some quail here in September on dove and prairie chicken hunts, may wind up trying southern Iowa this year as they are supposed to be doing well with quail and even some return of pheasants. Lost our 7yo Gordon but the 11yo is doing well. Got 2 pups just 3mos old so the n...

I'll put in for the card on my "cycle" date, April of next year. I'll be sure to post anything that might shed light on the gun.eightbore wrote:Are we going to see the card?
Thanks for asking...

Re: CE 16 bore -- No Safety
Sweet gun! I'm told the bobwhites are making themselves better heard up in Harrison County, hope you have a great season with the dogs. Thanks!! Quail numbers have been up for the past two years. I'm hoping that flooding rains this past spring in Harrison Co. did not hurt this year's hatch. Drought...

Re: CE 16 bore -- No Safety
Stan is right on with his comments and like him, I've also shot at the rings. BTW, looks and sounds like a nice gun. July at a club owned by a friend. Re: CE 16 bore -- No Safety
I would bet my money on its intention were for live pigeon shooting. I have a LC Smith 20 ga. Ejectors with no safety. A lot of people have questioned why a 20 Ga. Live bird gun ? A lot of us have concluded it was ordered for a woman or a child. I would think in live bird shooting you would want a ...

Re: CE 16 bore -- No Safety
Most sxs vintage guns that left the factory with no safery were called live bird guns. Made when live pigeon shooting you didn't have to worry about having a mishap by fooling with the safety Hey, thanks for your reply. Do you by chance know of any live bird guns documented with a letter, etc. that...

Re: Polywad shell question
I shoot the Vintager and Double-wide shells (unfortunately the later only in size 8 shot) as well as RSTs. We don't have lots of pheasants in North Missouri, but I've brought them down with these lighter loads...but that's only pointed birds at closer ranges. When I am shooting tight chokes they com...

Re: Fox Paper Lot
The Grand American Handicap was held at Cleveland, Ohio, in 1920. In 1919, 1921 and 1923 it was at Chicago's North Shore Country Club. In 1922 it was held at Atlantic City, New Jersey, and beginning in 1924 they settled in at the ATA's permanent home at Vandalia, Ohio. That should be Woolfolk Hende...
