Re: patterns with 23/4" shells in short chambers
Daryl, That too is good advice. The old girl has performed well since I got her in 2015, often with spreader loads of both lengths. I'll be using her as is for a while yet, at least. She's in amazing shape after turning 111 years a little over a month ago. Ansley was right! Thanks again. Mike

Re: patterns with 23/4" shells in short chambers
Hey Researcher, Va Turkey, Frank and Romac: Thanks so much for your sound advice! On reflection, I agree it's a "no brainer" , especially since I will probably pass the gun down to my son or grandson, and don't plan to sell it. I'm taking "Miss Ansley" to Nebraska in a couple of ...

patterns with 23/4" shells in short chambers
Gentlemen : I am aware that I can use 23/4" plastic-hulled shells in my 1909 A Grade with its original length chambers. Does anyone know if this practice adversely affects the shot patterns versus using short shells? One other question: Mine is an A grade 12 gauge, with about 97 per cent origin...

Re: nickle plated shot
I got the shot from Ballistic Products in Minnesota. It seemed to work well in handloads in Nebraska last year. It may be European. I had never heard of that shot size before last year either. It was deadly on the long tails. Thanks for the good advice gentlemen.

nickle plated shot
Gents, I have a fine 1909 vintage 12 gauge A grade. The barrels are pristine, the bluing about98%. Its full and modified choked. My question is: Will the nickel plated, number 5 1/2 shot I like to load for pheasants cause harm to the bores? In other words does the plating render the shot too hard so...

Where does one get Amber Shellac, any paint store? Was that the finish Ansley used way back?

Re: stock finish on 1910 A Grade
Oldr 31 and Gents: Thanks for the tip about BLO. I definitely don't want to do a refinish with that old patina from 1910 on a streaky pretty piece of English walnut. A slight healing of the old finish is what's in order. Thanks for your help and I say shoot side by sides at everything! Mike Ruff

Re: stock finish on 1910 A Grade
Thanks Mr. Hillis and "Full Choke 16": That is very helpful. Do you know what sort of varnish or shellac Ansley would have used in 1910? It doesn't appear to be an oil finish. What would be a good quality wax to use? I apologize for beginner's ignorance but I will hunt with the gun and wan...

stock finish on 1910 A Grade
Fox Oracles: I have acquired a very nice 1910 A Grade, 28", light twelve. It has about 95+% original blue and about 85% wood finish. The stock is pretty, but I would like to apply some kind of finish to places where varnish is rubbed off without altering, disturbing the rest of the finish. Do y...

Re: A Grade doubling
bbman3 and Stan Hillis:
Thanks so much for you prompt reply and good advice! I do have some good gunsmith screwdrivers available, but may be cautious and let Mr. Schwarz take a look at it. He's sort of on my way to the mountains anyway.
Thank God its Fall!

A Grade doubling
Gents: I acquired a 1910 A Grade 12 recently and took it to a great dove shoot in September down here in South Georgia. She brought down 14 birds in 31 shots with RST spreader loads, which is about as good as I ever have done, even in my 20's. I'm now several decades older! Its a 28" full and m...
