Re: Colt 1878

It is a shadow. The barrels are in very rough shape tho inside.I plan on taking it to Matthew Begley for about a 50% restoration. Re-cut the checkering, get all the mechanical problems corrected, put back on face, install new ebony fore-end tip.I’m not sure if I want him to put in some kind of Briley tu...

I’ve been in touch with the archives to see if by chance there is possibly any more information available.I’m keeping my fingers crossed but not really getting my hopes too high.

Re: Colt 1878

Got my letter from Colt yesterday.
Pretty basic information, not what I was hoping for.Grade designation was listed as “Fancy”.Would anyone here know just what kind of embellishments were required to meet that designation? I have yet to see another like it.

Lefever drillings

I recently had the good fortune to attend the Las Vegas Antique Arms show.Even tho I have heard that it’s been going downhill I thought it was great. Most of the Fox guns I saw were either brought by CSMC or Josh Loewensteiner.I spent quite a bit of time hanging out at the Lefever tables.Got to recon...

Re: Winchester Model 71

I’ll be keeping my eyes open for ammunition at the gun shows now.Thankfully, the gun remains in original, unaltered condition as it left the factory right down to the steel buttplate on September 24th,1942.Kind of neat to have a gun built during the war years.Has all the features of a pre-war gun exce...

Re: Winchester Model 71

Contacted a Winchester historian, per the information I provided him he assured me that it is a factory short rifle. Build date of September 1942.

Re: Winchester Model 71

Thought about a factory letter but for this model all it would give me is the serial number application date, would not confirm the configuration of the gun.Does anyone know if there are other options available to me?

Re: 2023 Hosford Cup

My taste in vintage guns kind of runs across the spectrum.Hard to pick just one favorite brand. That said,I set up a display of my Lefever guns earlier this year in Indiana and will be doing the same here.Stop by and say Hi.

I hope this isn’t considered sacrilegious by too many of our members, but I know there are more than a few who collect other vintage American shotguns.Lefevers are a favorite of mine.Over on the Lefevercollectors.com website Dr.Bob Decker (a direct descendant of D.M.Lefever)has recently posted a leng...
