Re: Reloading RST shells
I reload a 3/4 oz #4 buckshot payload (15 pellets) for my 1920's Sterlingworth 12ga using cowboy data (Accurate Nitro 100) for both barrel sides (left full, right modified) and bust clays really well and game birds come down with minimum damage. Had many a good meals from the hunts. Not sure if it's...

A can of "Sight Black" sprayed on will do the trick. Wipes right off with gun solvents.

Re: Question on barrel stamps and chamber
Thank you all! I thought it was chamber length. I'll guess I'll have to have it measured. It is a joy to shoot with 2 3/4" hand loaded #4 buck shot at cowboy load levels my indoor range allows. Though, my dad rabbit hunted with it using Remington 3 1/4-1-8 loads from the box of shells he gave m...

Question on barrel stamps and chamber
Hey all, Quick question on my dad's 12 gauge 1928 Sterlingworth he gave me, serial # 116xxx. Since all the recent topics on chamber length and barrel stampings, I have a question or two on his/my model. Under the barrel, each chamber is stamped with 3. And there is a concave square next to the seria...

Re: Dating a Savage/AHF from a serial #
Yep, that's it! You've found it. I was searching under Savage. No wonder I was having trouble. Gosh, the guard is 15 years older than my 116XXX six digit Sterlingworth.
I guess I got a good price at $22 shipped. Thank you so much!

Dating a Savage/AHF from a serial #
Hey all, I had to replace the trigger guard on my '28 12 ga Sterlingworth I got from my dad. It was quite damaged. I found one on GB under the heading "Savage/AH Fox trigger guard". When I got it, it looked identical. The engraving matched the original, threads were the same, everything li...

Re: Dry firing before storage.
I drop hammers with spent shells (after I tap the spent primers flat from the inside to simulate new primers for impact), disassemble, drop barrel locking hook via lever to take that strain off, and store in 3 pieces.

Re: Action will not break open
You might want to start taking it apart if you are handy and look for anything broken or chipped off. If it opens and comes apart fine with the fore arm off, then that is a good place to start in the receiver. There is a really good section here on disassembly with nice pictures. Maybe post pics as ...

Re: Action will not break open
With the action completely closed, remove the fore end and try to take the barrel off the receiver for starters.

The red arrow is pointing to the .009" shim and the green points to the .005". Just a slight amount of wiggle equal to the other trigger. No more binding of the trigger return spring.

Re: Lateral (side to side) trigger play
Hey all, Looks like the triggers pin hole is true and not key holed at all (thanks for pointing that out before I drilled and reamed). Installed a .009" shim on one side but there was still some wiggle. There wasn't enough clearance to add another .009, but a .005 fit and left the correct amoun...

Re: Lateral (side to side) trigger play
Thank you to all and the quick responses. The sear spring is good with no cracks and both fingers are stiff and even with each other. The hammer notches and sear noses are clean and sharp and index wonderfully. Thank you for that fact that the rear trigger pin hole is farther away from the finger in...

Lateral (side to side) trigger play
Hey all, 1920's era Sterlingworth side by side 12 gauge, double triggers: Rear trigger has a lot of side to side play and sometimes the trigger return spring gets snagged up in the "V" slot in the trigger and doesn't reset properly. Possibly key-holed out some from use and years. Pin is fi...

Re: How Bad?
What was the intended purpose of putting that bolt there in the first place? Doesn't seem to hold anything in place. Possibly to keep the stock from splitting??
