Re: HEs Off to Quebec...

I just was talking to Mike B. last night. I am going down for 3 days in early December with 3 HEs. I was going to go in January this season but I'll be in Belize hunting for tarpon, permit and bonefish. The sporting calendar is filling up

Re: HEs Off to Quebec...

The Niceshot handloads seemed to work fine. Most of my ducks were taken with BisMaxx 1 3/8 oz of #4s... My 32" standard frame HE, "Marse Henry" was used 4 of 5 days. I am afraid it has supplanted all my other duck guns. :D ...at least emotionally... I never even took the big 32" ...

HEs Off to Quebec...

Though I have been hunting in the Southern Hemisphere for a few weeks this summer, our Autumn has finally arrived and I am off for my annual pilgrimage to Lac St Pierre with the Brothers McCormack to kick off the 2012/13 hunting season. We will be meeting Destry "Markethunter" Hoffard ther...

Re: Fox Gunsmiths in the Memphis Area

Thanks, Hayden. I'll pass the information down to Beaver Dam. Mr. Highsmith (mentioned in Nash Buckingham's article "Are We All Shooting 8 Gauge Guns" as a young man wielding a Purdey 10g hammergun at the range) must be getting along in years.

Fox Gunsmiths in the Memphis Area

I have some friends in the Memphis area that are Fox owners. They need some service done on a couple of them. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Memphis/Northern Miss. area familiar with old doubles? Thanks, Don :?

Re: Ejector barrels on a non ejector gun?

There is not much odd about that gun at all as Bobby stated except that it normally would have come from the factory with a single extractor. Other than the extractor mechanisms themselves, ejector barrels and extractor barrels are the same. It would be interesting to see if the pair of extractors a...

Re: Assessing a good buy Fox Gr C 12 ga (Pics)

No, "ASavageFox", I am not referring to that technique. You just clean the polished action with acetone and then smear on the cold blue. Then you wipe it off. It usually just takes the 'shine" off. You don't want to blue it, you just want to take the shine off. A bit of polishing on a...

Re: Assessing a good buy Fox Gr C 12 ga (Pics)

First the photos are so poor it is hard to make a real "guess" about the gun's current condition. :? The fore end looks original but sanded bare (note the proudness of the latch), the same might(?) be said of the stock though it still seems proud of the metal. Cs often had fancy wood. Atle...

Re: Production Date

Dave- I once had a 16 gauge drawbolt with a standard frame decades ago. It was the first I'd ever noticed. I'm sorry but I have no record of the SN.- Don

Re: Assessing a good buy or not?

Many Fox action appear bright when the case colors fade. However, the key to assessing the value of a C grade is the state of the very fine engraving typical of that model. (I've probably owned 10+ of them over the years) If the engraving remains sharp and the barrels are in sound condition, I would...

B Grade #402

I took the long way home from a visit to my stockers this morning to pick up a Parker (sorry!) DH 20g 0 frame damascus gun I had re-stocked. He was working on my new HE when Harry the Cocker and I got there. I stopped at Cabela's and came across A.H. Gun Co. #402. A B grade in worn but solid conditi...

Re: Need help to make sure this is a real Fox shotgun or not

The A. H. Fox Co. mad a limited number of single barrel trap guns but this does not sound like one of them. They used a plain ribbed buttplate that did not have their name on it. They did not make a gun with "twist" steel barrels either. The serial # the "56,000" range would indi...
