Re: J Grade SG - Home From the Beauty Parlor

No doubt about it Mike, you'll have the best looking gun on the line. Last summer a younger fellow asked to shoot my J, I traded him guns ( his is a Beretta 400 auto) for the round. He shot a 20 with the Fox and I ran em all with his gun. He thought I should get a gun like his, I told him I'd just a...

The model would be BST. Boyds gunstocks has a replacement for +/- $65.

Re: Two days to go

The way that the checkering pattern directs your eye to the butt of the well figured stock is really well done. When you sit down to take a break in the woods, you're going to be fascinated looking over that gun. Be careful not to look too long, us older fellows have a tendency to stiffen up a bit a...

Re: Poi & shoot'n paper

The pattern board is something we all glean a bit of statistical knowledge from and it amuses our fertile minds. Now this is just one duck hunters opinion, so you can take it or leave it, but unless your anatomy is very small, very large or really odd shaped, stock fit isn't nearly important as gun ...

Re: Letters/Look Ups?

The cards for the look up are only available for graded guns, as that is what is available to our Board of Directors who graciously donate their time looking them up. A factory letter comes from Mr. Callahan who is the Savage factory historian. Savage Arms purchased Fox Gun Co. in 1930 and owns all ...

Re: Sterlingworth 12 ga. 26" or 30" guns

Good point Tom. Honestly, it was a guess on my part. I think it depends on what part of the world you are from as to what you might experience. Most Sterlingworth 12's around here have 30* barrels followed by 28's. 26 and 32's are rare as hen's teeth. Other than what Dave has tabulated, I've never s...

30* is the most common in 12 gauge. Mostly under the fore end iron for the numbers.

Re: Fox Double Barrel 16 Gauge

Most Sterlingworths with 28* barrels are choked full in the left and modified in the right. Chamber length will be 2 9/16* in a 16 gauge. The pictures seem to show some oil accumulation in the stock just behind the action (the blackish color). I wouldn't be shooting anything more than 1 oz. loads du...

Re: Fox Double Barrel 16 Gauge

Guesstimated date of manufacture-1926. Without seeing the gun but considering it to be in average condition I'll guess at somewhere between $700 and $1500. Barrel length, stock configuration, presence of ejectors, single trigger, etc. can also have an effect on value.

Re: Vintage Shotgun Brush "What Manufacturer Made These"

I had a brush like that with a 3 piece hickory and brass cleaning rod that my uncle had. I would guess it was from the 40's or '50s, but there was no name on it or the rod.
